What is half-cut cell technology in solar panels?

I see panels marketed as '144 Cell Half-Cut'. What does half-cut mean and why is it better than standard panels?

In half-cut panel technology, standard solar cells are cut in half using a laser. A typical 72-cell panel becomes a 144-cell panel.
Because the cells are smaller, the electrical current running through them is halved. This significantly reduces resistive power losses, leading to higher efficiency. Furthermore, half-cut panels have better shade tolerance—if the bottom half of the panel is shaded, the top half continues to produce power.
