A premium vendor told me their panels are 'PID Free', which is why they cost more. What is PID, and is it a serious problem?

PID stands for Potential Induced Degradation. It occurs when high voltage and high humidity cause stray currents to leak from the solar cells to the aluminum frame, leading to massive power drops (up to 30%) over a few years. It is a serious issue. However, almost all modern Tier-1 panels sold today are manufactured to be 'Anti-PID' or 'PID Free'. It's an industry standard now, not a premium feature.
