Solar Panel Efficiency: STC vs Real World in India
All solar panels are rated at STC (Standard Test Conditions): 25°C, 1000 W/m² irradiance, 1.5 air mass. In India's hot climate, actual panel temperature regularly reaches 50–65°C, causing significant efficiency loss.
Temperature Coefficient Explained
For every 1°C above 25°C, a typical monocrystalline panel loses 0.35–0.40% of its rated power. In Rajasthan where peak panel temperature reaches 65°C: Loss = (65-25) × 0.35% = 14% power loss at peak temperature.
