☀️ Going Solar in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh

Homes in Kanpur can claim up to ₹78,000 under PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana for a rooftop system of up to 3 kW. In 2026 a 3 kW on-grid system typically costs ₹1.6–2.1 lakh before the subsidy (about ₹82,000–1.32 lakh after it), generates around 360 units a month and usually pays for itself in 3–6 years, depending on your tariff.

How the subsidy process works

1. Register on pmsuryaghar.gov.in with your electricity consumer number.
2. Choose a registered vendor and apply for rooftop solar and net metering with your DISCOM.
3. The vendor installs DCR panels from an ALMM-listed manufacturer.
4. The DISCOM inspects the system and installs the net meter.
5. Submit your bank details; the subsidy is paid directly into your bank account.

Questions to ask any solar installer

• Are you registered as a vendor on the PM Surya Ghar portal for my DISCOM?
• Which panel and inverter brands and models will you use, and are the panels DCR?
• What warranty do you give on workmanship, and who handles service visits?
• Does the quote include the structure, earthing, lightning arrester, cabling and net-meter paperwork?
• Will I get a GST invoice for the full amount?
