About SolarCalculators.in

Accelerating India's transition to clean energy through properly modelled financial data — free, unbiased, and always up to date.

Our Mission

At SolarCalculators.in, we believe that the transition to solar energy is more than an environmental responsibility—it is one of the smartest financial investments an Indian homeowner or business can make. Yet, the solar market in India is often fragmented and opaque. From wildly fluctuating vendor quotes to constantly evolving state subsidies and DISCOM tariffs, consumers are left to navigate a maze of technical and financial complexities on their own.

Our mission is to democratise access to precise, data-driven solar financial analysis. We envision a future where every Indian—whether residing in a Mumbai high-rise, operating a Coimbatore factory, or managing a Rajasthan farm—can instantly and accurately calculate the true cost, savings, and ROI of going solar. No sales pressure. No hidden commissions. Just transparent, reliable numbers.

Who We Are

SolarCalculators.in was founded in 2025 by a passionate group of renewable energy engineers, data scientists, and climate advocates based in Navi Mumbai. Our journey began from a shared frustration: despite India's massive push for green energy, going solar was still a confusing, opaque process for the average consumer. After experiencing firsthand the challenge of navigating conflicting vendor quotes and complex subsidy paperwork, we decided to build the ultimate tool for clarity.

Today, our dedicated team works tirelessly to track MNRE circulars, decode state-specific DISCOM tariff orders, and monitor real-time updates to the PM Surya Ghar Yojana. We are fiercely independent—we have no hidden ties to solar manufacturers, installers, or financiers. We do not sell solar panels. We do not sell batteries. We sell clarity.

Since our launch, our platform has empowered thousands of Indian homeowners, businesses, and farmers to accurately estimate their solar savings, understand their financing options, and connect with verified, top-tier installers.

Our Tools — What We Offer

Our suite of free calculators covers every stage of the solar decision-making journey:

  • Solar Panel Cost Calculator: Get an instant estimate of system cost, subsidy deduction, and net price for any capacity from 1 kW to 500 kW.
  • ROI & Payback Calculator: Model your exact return on investment including electricity bill savings, degradation, and inflation over 25 years.
  • Subsidy Calculator: Calculate your PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana subsidy eligibility — up to ₹78,000 for residential installations.
  • Inverter Size Calculator: Enter your appliances and get the exact inverter VA rating, battery capacity, and panel count required.
  • Solar Loan EMI Calculator: Compare EMI, interest, and total cost across 7 major banks offering solar financing.
  • State & City Guides: Localised solar data for 80+ cities and 31 states — including DISCOM contact details, net metering rules, and local tariff rates.

How Our Calculations Work

Every calculator on this platform is built on verified, publicly available data. Here is what powers our models:

  • MNRE Benchmark Costs: We use the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy's published benchmark costs per kW as the basis for system pricing — updated whenever MNRE revises them.
  • State Electricity Tariffs: Tariff rates are sourced from individual DISCOM tariff orders. We maintain a database of rates for 35+ DISCOMs across India.
  • Solar Irradiation Data: We use NASA POWER / NREL data for location-specific Peak Sun Hours, allowing accurate generation estimates city by city.
  • Degradation & Lifespan: Panel degradation is modelled at 0.7% per year (industry standard for Tier 1 monocrystalline panels), with a 25-year system life.
  • Subsidy Rules: PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana subsidy slabs are updated in real time as government circulars are issued. We cross-check with the official pmsuryaghar.gov.in portal.

All calculations are estimates. Actual results will vary based on roof orientation, shading, local weather, equipment quality, and grid tariff changes. We always recommend obtaining 2–3 quotes from MNRE-empaneled installers before making any purchase decision.

Editorial Independence

SolarCalculators.in is editorially independent. Our calculator results are never influenced by advertiser relationships or installer partnerships. When you see a cost estimate or subsidy figure on our platform, it is based solely on publicly available data and our own modelling — not on what any vendor wants you to see.

We do run advertisements and a verified installer marketplace, but these are kept completely separate from our calculation engine. A vendor paying for a premium listing on our marketplace does not influence where they appear in quote requests or how their products are represented in our tools.

Unbiased & Always Up-to-Date

The solar landscape changes rapidly. Government policies like the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana change the financial dynamics overnight. Electricity tariff hikes by DISCOMs alter payback periods. Panel prices have dropped over 60% in five years. We pride ourselves on keeping our data current:

  • Benchmark costs per kW — tracked from MNRE circulars
  • State-wise electricity tariff rates — updated after each DISCOM tariff order
  • Central and State subsidy schemes — monitored via official government portals
  • Battery technology prices — Lead Acid vs Li-Ion updated quarterly
  • Net metering regulations — tracked state by state

Our Promise to You

We make the following commitments to every visitor of SolarCalculators.in:

  1. Always free: Every calculator on this platform is free to use, forever. No paywalls, no registration required.
  2. Always honest: We will never inflate savings estimates to make solar look better than it is. If the numbers don't work for your situation, our calculator will tell you so.
  3. Always current: When a government policy changes, we update our calculators within 48 hours.
  4. Your data is yours: We do not sell your personal information to third parties. Lead details are shared only with the verified installers you choose to connect with.

Join India's Solar Revolution

India has set an ambitious target of 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030. Rooftop solar is a crucial piece of that puzzle — and with PM Surya Ghar subsidies making it more accessible than ever, 2026 is the best time to go solar.

By using our tools, you are taking the first informed step towards energy independence and lower electricity bills. Thank you for trusting us with your solar journey.
