Calculate Solar Panels for your EV ⚡

Why Solar and EV are the Perfect Duo

Electric Vehicles (EVs) are the future of mobility, but their sustainability depends on the source of electricity used to charge them. If you charge your EV using grid power in India, you are still indirectly consuming coal-based energy. Solar charging completes the green cycle.

How many panels do I need?

On average, a mid-range EV like the Tata Nexon EV requires about 6-8 units of electricity for a 50km daily commute. To generate this, you need approximately 2kW of dedicated solar capacity. Our calculator above provides a more precise estimation based on your specific vehicle and driving habits.

Financial Sense

Running a petrol car costs approximately ₹7-10 per kilometer. An EV charged from the grid costs ₹1.5-2 per kilometer. However, an EV charged from your own solar panels costs effectively ₹0 per kilometer (after the initial system payback).

The Charging Strategy

Under Net Metering models, you don't necessarily have to charge your car while the sun is shining. Your panels can export power to the grid during the day, and you can charge your car at night using the credits earned, making it virtually free.
